I love being outside in nature, exploring new places, getting to see just how incredible the world is. But I also love being inside, curled up with a good book, watching the telly. The thought of going climbing or canyoning fills me with dread, but ask me to do a long walk somewhere with spectacular views, and i am there.
Basically, I’m a gentle adventurer.
And that’s okay.
the core of being a gentle adventurer
there’s a lot to be said for being a gentle, everyday adventurer.
It’s that balance between a love for exploration and being present, without carrying 4 days worth of food and camping gear on your back.
Picture yourself hiking through a quiet forest, or maybe wandering through a cute little village—fully present, savoring every moment without rushing. You might stop at a little bakery, grab a coffee, immerse yourself in the town.
It’s about being curious and excited to discover new places, but with a calm, mindful approach.
I also find that part of being a gentle adventurer is enjoying the journey, rather than focusing on the destination. Yes, it might take me 2 hours longer to do the walk, but that’s because I’m taking lots of pictures and stopping for coffee and cake which I’ve packed in my backpack!
Something that I love about having everyday adventures is that you can turn anything into an adventure. So as much as I love going on walks, swimming in the lake and going on road trips, I also love having more ‘introverted’ adventures; cinema trips, crafty days at home, turning a baking day into an adventure.
Especially with autumn and winter approaching, sometimes the weather’s just a bit too shit, and you don’t want to go on that hike in the pouring rain. I know I don’t - if I’m going to the effort of a big walk, I want to be able to take nice pictures whilst I’m there! On days like this, I love to opt for a cosy movie day, or getting the art supplies out!
I’d love to hear your favourite gentle adventures!
the joy of just being outside
I think one of the key things about being a gentle adventurer is a love of being outside, and that being enough.
Spending time outside isn’t just about soaking up the beauty around you—it’s also a big boost for your well-being. When you’re out in nature, your body and mind get a serious reset. The fresh air helps clear your head, reducing stress and lifting your mood, almost like a natural antidepressant. Sunlight is your best friend for soaking up vitamin D, which is great for your bones and immune system.
Plus, moving around outdoors, whether it’s hiking, biking, or just a leisurely stroll, keeps your heart healthy and your muscles strong. Even just a few minutes outside can help you feel more energized, focused, and happier.
So, every time you step outside, you’re not just exploring—you’re doing something amazing for your health too.
5 cosy and gentle adventures to have
Feeling ready to embrace your gentle adventurer? Well here are 5 perfect everyday adventurers;
Forest Bathing: Inspired by the Japanese practice of "Shinrin-yoku," this involves simply being in the forest, immersing yourself in its sights, sounds, and scents. Find a quiet trail, and walk slowly, pausing to breathe deeply and connect with the natural world around you. It’s a wonderful way to de-stress and feel grounded.
Indoor Campout: Transform your living room into a cosy campsite. Set up a tent or build a blanket fort, and bring out some fairy lights, snacks, and your favorite books or movies. You can even toast marshmallows over a candle or make s'mores in the oven for that authentic campfire vibe. With halloween coming up, why not get some spooky films out!
Art & Craft Adventure: Gather some art supplies and let your creativity flow. Whether it's painting, knitting, making candles, or trying out a new DIY project, diving into a creative activity can feel like an adventure in itself. Plus, you’ll have something beautiful to show for it! This summer I’ve loved spending time with my friends making friendship bracelets for our Taylor Swift concert, and it’s just so wholesome
Coastal Stroll at Sunset: If you’re near the coast, head to the beach for a leisurely walk as the sun sets. The combination of the cool ocean breeze, the sound of the waves, and the golden light makes for a calming, rejuvenating experience. I love doing this when we’re staying near the sea. And if you’re not by the coast, you can still go in search of the sunset - this time of year is perfect for finding that gorgeous golden light!
Cosy Reading Nook Escape: Set up a special reading corner with comfy pillows, a warm blanket, and a stack of books or magazines you've been meaning to dive into. Add a hot drink and let yourself get lost in stories that transport you to different worlds—no passport required.

Absolutely speaking my language there! I’m currently walking the Cotswold Way which I do in 2-3mile chunks. It’s going to take me years to finish but I’m just enjoying picking up where I left off every time I go and seeing a change in the terrain or the change in season! Hoping to get out to the next bit in a couple of weeks 🥰
“Gentle adventurer” what a delightful concept. Exactly the frame I need for life right now. Thanks
