postcard 001 : a year of micro adventures 2.0
reflecting on 52 micro adventures, and things to come in 2024
Happy New Year!
And welcome back to Everyday Adventure Club (previously Postcards From - more on that in a little bit). It’s been a while (a whole 10 months!) but with a new year, it feels like a fresh start and I really missed writing these Substacks.

This has been on my to do list for about 6 months, but I wanted to rebrand this newsletter to the Everyday Adventures Club. Here you’ll find postcards from micro adventures plus guest posts, slow living inspo + tips on creating your own micro adventures.
I’ll also be sharing the latest posts on my blog, Postcards From, and book/film/TV/podcast recommendations.
So, are you ready to join the Everyday Adventures Club?
Lessons from a Year of Microadventures
In 2023, I set myself the challenge of having 52 micro adventures; one micro adventure a week for a whole year. Not only did I hit that target, I ended up having 63 microadventures ranging from paddleboarding and wild swimming to mini cruises to wellness festivals.
Prioritising adventure brought so much to my life in 2023, and I learned so much from this challenge.
Firstly, I really started to embrace spontaneity. I’m someone who usually likes to plan, plan, plan. However I started doing things on a whim, from road-tripping to Eurovision (and only deciding a few hours beforehand to do so) to accepting a job offer on a Thursday and flying to Turkey on the following Monday for a month. Pre 2023 me would never have believed I could go with the flow so much, but I’ve found so much peace and joy from doing this!
A real win from my year of micro-adventures has been seeing friends more. I put it out there that I was doing this challenge, and had friends join me on some of these adventures. At one point, the stars aligned and me and my four best friends actually spent the day together for the first time in 10 years. I’ve loved that I’ve spent time with some of my favourite people (and made new friends too along the way).
A final big lesson for me is that anything can constitute a micro adventure (or adventure in general). Whether it’s a trip to the cinema, a local walk, heading to a museum or trying a new cafe. With the right attitude, you can make it an adventure!
A Year of Microadventures 2.0
I truly loved doing my year of micro adventures and in all honesty, not ready to give up this challenge at all. So we’re doing a year of microadventures 2.0.
Another year, another 52 micro adventures. This year with the added caveat of doing one new thing per month - whether it’s learning a new skill (pottery is on the list!), visiting a new attraction, or even visiting a new country!
So, what micro adventures are you planning in 2024?
My interest is totally piqued now! Can’t wait to follow along. And I’m so grateful for the reminder of a mindset I’ve always had, but haven’t been living. Time to change that! 🫶🏻
