hello hello hello 👋🏼 i hope your Friday afternoon is treating you well!
It’s funny, I actually wrote a post on Instagram about how we need to stop waiting for the weekends to have microadventures, and start embracing the 5-9 after the 9-5. This is something I’ve really done this week, with evening trips to the lake, and a trip to the theatre. It’s also something that feels a lot easier to do in summer than in winter!! I don’t know about you, but I’m always amazed by just how much you can fit into an evening.
I find that evening microadventures are a great way to break up the monotony of a week, and bring a little bit of magic and excitement.
Speaking of excitement, I’m actually off to London for a few days tomorrow, so I would love to hear any of your london recommendations in the comments!
I’m partly going for work, helping capture content at an autumn retreat, which I cannot wait. But I also have a microadventure day with a friend, a solo day exploring, and a theatre trip with my mum planned - so there’s going to be a little bit of everything!
R - I read this brilliant post on the grief of losing a pet on
and I resonated with it so much. our beloved collie, Arthur, died at the beginning of summer, and I’ve tried to write about it, and struggled to be honest, but Olivia really captured that raw feeling of losing a pet.E - so, if you’ve ever driven to the lake district via the A66, it’s likely you’ll have driven past Rheged, maybe even stopped for petrol. The visitor center there has a great coworking space, and a little deli you can get lunch from. I got a Mediterranean pesto pasta salad from here yesterday, and I am not kidding you, it’s one of the best pasta salads I’ve eaten. I’m obsessed with it, and looking forward to working from there again soon so I can have it again!
P - I watched The Perfect Couple on Netflix, and what a brilliant watch. it’s a 6 part limited series, and is a who dunnit. Set on 4th July weekend, and a wedding is about to happen, when a death happens. It’s brilliant, a must watch (and if you’ve watched it, I’d love to hear your thoughts!!)
O - I’m obsessed with sunsets. this week, there have been some absolutely incredible sunsets and they’ve just made me so happy.
R - last weekend, we had a little staycation 40 minutes away, at a static caravan, and it was the most relaxing weekend. We were by the sea at Silloth. There isn’t much at Silloth, a few cafes and shops, the food and coffee scene isn’t that great, but there’s such a nostalgic charm there. We stayed at Solway Holiday Park, and the sea and town are in walking distance, and it was a great base. But the real recommendation is going on a staycation. A few times this year, we’ve stayed 20min -1 hour away from home, for a night or two, and it’s a great way to just refresh and recharge a little bit!
T - Whilst we were at Silloth, we saw they had a pottery painting studio, so I went and painted a little pumpkin and it was such a treat to just switch off and be creative for an hour or so!
I’d love to hear what your highlights have been this week! Have you had any good adventures, read any good books and substacks, tried any cute cafes? Share in the comments!!
See you next week

Love this. I was explaining your ideas to my wife and daughter; they loved them and subscribed! Micro adventures are the future, and I hope your other readers feel the same. Loved the Perfect Couple too but wished they would have developed the husband Tag a little for me. Great approachable writing as ever.
I'm with you in theory! ♥️ Like, a lot. But in practice, this is not so easy. It's a lot easier in summer, when days are really long, but as soon as that light-dark scale tips... And it's possible on days when I work from home, but after hours spent in the company of ppl, and commuting for almost an hour, my introvert self is usually so exhausted that I can only do the minimum dog walk. And yes, that can become a little adventure if I have the brain space to look around the forest and explore, but often at this point I'm woozy from hunger and tiredness and then by the time I've eaten something it's dark outside. And I'm not complaining, I have the privilege of being able to work from home often and I do prioritize time for adventure and exploration and art-making whenever I can, but on "regular" days the 5-9 is taken up with keeping me and my dog alive and fed. 🤷♀️
